I am former Head of Operational Delivery at the Careers and Enterprise Company. In 2014, the Education Secretary Nicky Morgan announced the creation of a new careers and enterprise company to help young people unleash their best possible futures.
I am the former Head of Identity Services and GOV.UK Verify at the Post Office, developing its services and responding to the implementation of GOV.UK Verify and Identity Services.
Prior to the above I was the Special Adviser to the Cabinet Office (GDS) for GOV.UK Verify. Identity Assurance is a strand in the Digital by Default Strategy being rolled out across the United Kingdom by the Cabinet Office (GDS) and it’s Certified Companies (CC).
I am the former Special Adviser to Shaw Trust on its Ministry Of Justice Transforming Rehabilitation tender around the structure, the governance and the delivery model for implementation and roll out in the south West.
I am the founder of the public affairs think tank Yes Minister
Prior to setting up Yes Minister I was Head of Policy and Communications at the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion. I was previously a Programme Director of ‘Building Futures’ a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) funded initiative with BTEG and Talent which brought the voluntary sector and the private sector together to create jobs.
I am the Former Chief Executive of the Social Policy think tank ROTA and previously worked for the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) as an adviser on the implementation of the new Home Office Guidelines on ‘Custody Visiting’.
I have a PhD in Political Science from Loughborough University and I graduated from the University of Hull with a Masters Degree in Modern British Politics under the tutelage of the Conservative Peer Professor the Lord Norton of Louth.
I have worked in the private sector managing and re-branding my families soft drink manufacturing business. In the public & voluntary sectors I have managed European Social Fund (ESF) programs; worked in financial controls and as a contract manager for two Skills Funding Agencies (SFA: TEC).
I sit on the council of the Hansard Society which works to promote democracy and strengthen parliament. I also sit on the Board of the ESRC. I am a former council member of the Deaf Blind charity SENSE 2002-2006 and I am a school governor of St Michaels School in East Wickham. I write extensively on police authorities, social policy as it impacts on employment, citizenship, representation and democracy.
